The respected comediographer Neil Simon got together with the musician Marvin Hamlish and the text writer Carole Bayer Sager and created the musical chamber comedy They’re Playing Our Song. The story features a distinctive couple who work together to create hit music – a young text writer, Sonia Walsk, who is just starting out, and a renowned composer, Vernon Gersch. It follows the wittily hammed-up creation of a successful authorial partnership and its conversion into a romantic relationship. However, the love of Sonia and Vernon, which appears not only in their private life but also in many songs, soon gets complicated. However harmonious their working relationship may appear to be, their romance is going through a big crisis which stems from their mutual inability to reconcile their differences. Sonia and Vernon find themselves needing to choose which they prefer – career over love, or vice versa?
