a narrative legend with songs
This original historical drama, which was written especially for the remarkable place that is the Bishop’s Courtyard, not only intends to make use of the unique surroundings and magical atmosphere at that spot but also features a theme which couldn’t suit the location more. The body of the hero of this performance, legendary Austrian army leader Franz von der Trenck, actually lies only a few tens of metres from the Bishop’s Courtyard, in the Capuchin crypt of the Church of the Holy Cross.
The famed Baron Trenck was an exceptionally forceful and controversial character, and one full of contradictions – he was an educated intellectual, capable soldier and attractive man but also was known for his instinctive brutality. His life was full of battles, violence, constant coquetry with death and simultaneously many romantic love affairs. The production that tells his story will be an opulent theatrical feast: ‘narrative’ costumes, action scenes, intelligent conversation as well as a commentary provided by a singer from the fair – all this in combination with the beauty of historical architecture and the open sky above us.
